With the changes in the White House, Senate, and House of Representatives, we have a two-year window to undo at least some of the damage the Biden Administration wrought on the Second Amendment and the civil liberties of Americans.
Already, the ATF has rescinded its harsh, “Zero Tolerance” campaign, which heavily penalized federally licensed gun dealers for trivial paperwork errors and abandoned the reinterpretation of the definition of a dealer, which would have required gun owners who merely offer to sell a gun from their personal collection to obtain a FFL. The largely symbolic and completely useless White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention has been shut down. Legislators in both the House and Senate have introduced a raft of bills for concealed carry reciprocity; barring federal financial contracts to firms that discriminate against firearm-related businesses, this includes Bank of America, JP Morgan Chase, and Wells Fargo, among others; requiring the ATF to end its illegal backdoor gun registry and destroy the records and more.
Yes, it’s a problem the Republican Party majority is still seven votes shy of the number needed to block a filibuster. In addition, a couple of Republican Senators can’t be relied upon to vote with the party on pro-2A legislation. But there are ways around the filibuster and there’s always backdoor wheeling and dealing.
We have a golden opportunity to restore the constitutional rights of Americans, even in states that have no respect for the constitution.
