There are a number of Republicans in Congress that don’t act like Republicans. Unlike Democrats, who generally toe the party line, some members of the Grand Old Party are unruly mavericks; others are simply skittish – especially when it comes to reclaiming our Second Amendment rights.
In the Senate, Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska are just as likely to be on other side of the aisle when it’s time to vote. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, Thom Tillis of North Carolina, and John Cornyn of Texas are very squishy, at best. All three voted in favor of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act Joe Biden was so proud of and then immediately twisted. We can be grateful McConnell gave up the Senate majority leadership and Cornyn lost to John Thune of South Dakota in the vote for his replacement.
Without a reliable, filibuster-proof 60 votes, Senate Republicans are going to be hard-pressed to get any of the pro-2A bills we’re hoping for passed. In addition to having to corral the RINOs, they would have to rustle seven senators away from the Democrat herd.
There are ways to get around the filibuster, but the GOP is still going to need at least 50 votes, so Vice President Vance can be the tiebreaker.
If you have a Republican senator, it’s time to call, write, or email them. Let them know you helped send them to Washington and this is important.
It’s also important to keep an eye peeled for RINOs in your state’s legislature and among your elected officials. If they’re talking one thing and doing something else, it’s perfectly fine to ask some tough questions. Nobody can hold an elected official’s feet to the fire like constituents who have memories.
